중고트럭매매 이재명 대통령은 14일 다카이치 사나에 일본 총리와 함께 일본 나라현의 대표적 문화유산인 호류지(법륭사)를 방문했다. 전날 정상회담에 이어 이틀째 친교의 시간을 함께한 것으로, 이 대통령은 1박2일 방일 기간 다카이치 총리와 총 5차례 대화하며 친분을 다졌다. 이 대통령은 이날 간사이 지역 동포간담회에 참석한 뒤 귀국했다.
이 대통령은 이날 호류지에 도착해 먼저 나와 있던 다카이치 총리와 악수하며 “아우, 손이 차다”고 말했다. 다카이치 총리는 전날에도 나라현에 도착한 이 대통령을 숙소 앞에서 ‘깜짝’ 맞이로 파격 환대했다.
양 정상은 사찰 앞에서 짧은 환담을 한 후 주지 스님의 설명을 들으며 사찰 안으로 입장했다. 호류지 서원가람은 7세기 말 건립된 것으로 추정되는 일본 아스카 시대의 대표적 사찰로, 백제 목조 건축 양식의 영향을 받은 것으로 알려졌다.

이 대통령은 나라현이 고향인 다카이치 총리에게 “총리님은 여기에 자주 와보시나. 어릴 때 소풍 다니셨느냐”고 물었고, 주지 스님에게는 “목조 건물인데, 화재 없이 보존이 잘됐는지”를 물으며 사찰 기둥을 만지기도 했다.
다카이치 총리는 일반인에게 공개되지 않는 금당벽화 원본을 이 대통령에게 보여주기도 했다. 위성락 국가안보실장은 이날 “일본 측이 보여줄 수 있는 최상의 환대라고 평가할 수 있다”고 했다.
양 정상은 일본에서 가장 오래된 탑이라는 호류지 5층 목탑 앞에서 악수하며 기념사진을 촬영했다. 다카이치 총리는 호류지 시찰을 마친 뒤 이 대통령을 차량 앞까지 배웅했다. 이 대통령은 다카이치 총리와 사찰 입구에서 악수한 뒤 잠시 대화를 나눴고, 이후 다시 악수한 뒤 차량에 탔다. 다카이치 총리가 이 대통령이 탄 차량으로 다가와 창문 사이로 악수를 청하며 양 정상은 석별의 악수를 세 번 했다.
이 대통령과 다카이치 총리는 전날 정상회담에서 소인수회담, 확대회담 및 공동언론발표, 환담 행사, 만찬으로 이어지는 일정을 소화했다. 호류지 방문을 포함하면 양 정상이 직접 만나 대화를 나누는 자리가 총 5번 마련된 셈이다. 특히 이 대통령은 전날 환담 행사에서 일본 측 제안으로 다카이치 총리와 드럼 합주를 하는 등 파격적인 친교 활동을 했다.
이 대통령은 이날 다카이치 총리에게 한국산 드럼세트와 홍삼, 청국장 분말·환 등을 선물했고, 일본의 첫 ‘퍼스트 젠틀맨’인 다카이치 총리의 배우자 야마모토 다쿠 전 의원에게는 유기 반상기 세트와 삼성 갤럭시 워치 울트라를 선물했다. 다카이치 총리는 이 대통령에게 카시오 손목시계를, 김혜경 여사에게 나라현을 대표하는 전통 붓 전문 제조사의 화장용 붓과 파우치를 선물했다.
이 대통령은 이날 마지막 일정으로 간사이 지역 동포간담회에 참석해 “(동포 여러분께서는) 역사적 고비마다 발 벗고 도움의 손길을 내밀어주셨다”며 “가깝게는 불법계엄 사태 때 대한민국 민주주의를 지켜내기 위해 수많은 불빛을 밝히는 데 함께하셨다”고 말했다. 그는 또 “재일동포 여러분의 희생과 헌신 덕에 대한민국은 산업화와 민주화를 동시에 이뤄내고 한·일 양국 관계 또한 부침이 있긴 하지만 조금씩 진전을 이루고 있다”고 했다.
완벽한 사람이란 세상에 없어. 이를 전제로 깔고 사람을 만나야 해. 지나친 기대를 하는 경우도 있는데, 고이 접어두길 바라. ‘잘난 사람 잘난 대로 살고’ 부족함이 없어 보이지만 사실 알고 보면 다 허술하고 어리석은 부분이 있기 마련이야.
작년에 중국 허난성엘 갔을 때 배운 글귀가 있다. 시골집마다 벽에 붙어 있던 액자. 유독 중국 인민들이 좋아하는 격언이란다.
‘난더후투’. 우리말로 읽자면 난득호도. 어딘가 좀 부족하고 어리석은 구석이 있을 때 호감이 가는 것이지 치밀하고 잘난 맛에 사는 인간은 ‘호인’ 소리를 듣기 어렵다. 자기 자신 부족하고 어리석은 바보임을 아는 것, 귀한 깨달음이야.
