15일(현지시간) 미 CBS는 마차도가 이날 워싱턴 백악관에서 트럼프 대통령에게 자신이 받은 평화상 메달을 직접 전달했다고 복수의 백악관 관계자를 인용해 보도했다. 관계자들은 마차도가 미국이 니콜라스 마두로 베네수엘라 대통령을 축출해준 것에 감사를 전하는 뜻에서 진품 메달을 트럼프 대통령과 나누고 싶다 제안했다고 전했다.
이후 미 국회의사당을 찾은 마차도는 취재진과 만나 메달 전달 사실을 인정했다. 그는 “200년 전 질베르 뒤 모티에 라파예트 장군은 시몬 볼리바르(라틴 아메리카의 독립운동가)에게 조지 워싱턴 미 초대 대통령의 얼굴이 새겨진 메달을 전달했다”며 “볼리바르는 그 메달을 평생 간직했다”고 말했다.
이어 “당시 메달은 미 국민과 베네수엘라 국민이 독재에 맞서 자유를 위해 싸우는 과정에서 맺은 형제애의 상징으로서 라파예트 장군이 수여한 것”이라며 “200년이 지난 오늘날 볼리바르의 후예들은 워싱턴의 후계자(트럼프 대통령)에게 이번에는 노벨 평화상 메달로, 우리의 자유를 위해 그가 보여준 독보적인 헌신에 대한 인정의 표시를 전했다”고 했다.
마차도는 지난 5일 폭스뉴스 인터뷰에서 트럼프 대통령과 노벨평화상 나누고 싶다고 밝혔다. 이에 대해 노르웨이 노벨위원회는 지난 10일 “노벨상 수상이 공표되면 상을 취소하거나 공유하거나 다른 이에게 양도할 수 없다”고 말했다.

대구지법 안동지원 박민규 영장전담판사는 이날 열린 A씨에 대한 구속 전 피의자 심문(영장실질심사)을 열고 “증거 인멸 및 도주 우려가 있다”며 구속 영장을 발부했다.
